Jessica Chastain just took on Pennywise the clown in “It Chapter Two” and the X-Men in “Dark Phoenix,” but she’ll do battle with herself in a new feature. The two-time Oscar nominee is set to topline “Losing Clementine,” a dramedy about a tortured artist. Lucía Puenzo (“Cromo,” “The German Doctor”) is slated to direct the feature, Deadline reports.
Based on Ashley Ream’s novel of the same name, “Losing Clementine” tells the story of “world-renowned and sharp-tongued artist Clementine Pritchard (Chastain) who has decided she’s done. After flushing away her meds, she gives herself 31 days to tie up loose ends. While checking off her bucket list she uncovers secrets about her family and the tragedy that befell her mother and sister,” the source hints.
Ann Cherkis (“Better Call Saul”) is penning the screenplay.
Freckle Films’ Chastain and Kelly Carmichael are among “Losing Clementine’s” producers.
Chastain received Oscar nods for “Zero Dark Thirty” and “The Help.” Her packed slate includes spy thriller “355” and assassin story “Eve.” A long-time supporter of inclusivity behind the scenes and on-screen, Chastain has drawn attention to the dearth of opportunities for women directors, disturbing portrayals of female characters, and the lack of fair pay for women of color.
