Jill Soloway has unveiled the latest way they’re working to topple the patriarchy. The “Transparent” creator and Time’s Up supporter introduced The Topple List, a living Google spreadsheet of women, LGBTQ+ folks, people of color, disabled individuals, and “historically otherwise otherized” writers, filmmakers, and assistants currently working in the biz. (Note: Soloway identifies as nonbinary and uses they/them/their pronouns.)
To date, The Topple List features the names and contact info for over 130 culture creators. Some of the creators also provided their job title, the genre they work in, whether they’re part of the WGA, a writing sample, and how they identify in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and ethnicity.
Among those on The Topple List are poet and “BLKS” playwright Aziza Barnes, filmmaker Ro Haber (“New Deep South: House of JXN”), and writer-actor-comedian Ali Liebegott (“Transparent”).
Soloway won two Emmys for directing “Transparent,” an Amazon series about a trans woman and her family. The dramedy will conclude as a feature movie musical later this year. Soloway created limited series “I Love Dick” with Sarah Gubbins, and wrote and directed “Afternoon Delight.” Last fall they published their memoir “She Wants It.” “Six Feet Under,” “Professor Marston and the Wonder Women,” and “United States of Tara” are among Soloway’s previous writing and producing credits.
