You can cheer Jillian Bell on to the finish line when “Brittany Runs a Marathon” hits theaters this summer. Amazon Studios announced that the Sundance breakout will bow August 23.
The comedy tells the story of Brittany, a 27-year-old New Yorker known for having a good time and being a hot mess. “When she stops by a Yelp-recommended doctor’s office in an attempt to score some Adderall, she finds herself slapped with a prescription she never wanted,” the film’s synopsis details. “Forced to face reality for the first time in a long time, Brittany laces up her Converse and runs one sweaty block. The next day, she runs two. Soon she runs a mile. Brittany finally has direction — but is she on the right path?”
“Brittany Runs a Marathon” scored one of the biggest deals out of Sundance this year and received excellent reviews.
“Right Night” and “22 Jump Street” are among Bell’s previous film credits. Her TV credits include “Workaholics” and “Idiotsitter.”
Other Amazon Studios titles on our radar include Nisha Ganatra’s “Late Night,” a comedy about a late-night host who hires her first female writer, and Nanfu Wang and Jialing Zhang’s “One Child Nation,” a doc exploring China’s controversial one-child policy. The former bows June 7 and the latter August 9.
