Another installment of “The Souvenir” is in the works. Ahead of the film’s world premiere at Sundance 2019, A24 has snagged North American rights for its sequel, Deadline confirms. The company also holds the rights to the original pic, which is set to screen at the Berlinale following its run in Park City.
Penned by Hogg and inspired by her own experience, “The Souvenir” centers on a quiet film student (Honor Swinton Byrne). The emerging artist is in her first serious relationship, and it’s with an untrustworthy man (Tom Burke) who alienates her from her friends and her overprotective mother (Tilda Swinton).
Expected to kick off production this summer, “The Souvenir – Part 2” will be written and directed by Hogg. Swinton Byrne and Swinton are among those set to reprise their roles in the follow-up.
“Exhibition,” “Archipelago,” and “Unrelated” are among Hogg’s previous credits.
