A24 has scored worldwide rights to Tilda Swinton and Joanna Hogg’s latest collaboration, “The Eternal Daughter.” Screen Daily confirmed the news.
Shot in secret in Wales, the drama tells the story of “a middle-aged daughter and her elderly mother who confront long-buried secrets when they return to their former family home, now a nearly vacant hotel.” “The Eternal Daughter” wrapped in December.
Swinton appeared in Hogg’s previous feature, 2019’s “The Souvenir,” a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age story about a quiet film student who falls for an untrustworthy man. The drama, which stars Swinton’s daughter, Honor Swinton Byrne, topped Sight & Sound’s list of 2019’s best films. A sequel was announced ahead of “The Souvenir’s” world premiere at Sundance Film Festival. “The Souvenir: Part II” is expected to debut this year. Swinton and Swinton Byrne are reprising their roles from the original film.
“The Dead Don’t Die,” “Avengers: Endgame,” and “Suspiria” are among Swinton’s recent credits. She won an Oscar in 2008 for her supporting role in “Michael Clayton.”
Swinton and Hogg first worked together on “The Rehearsal,” one of Hogg’s student films. Hogg’s features include “Exhibition” and “Archipelago.”
