Kat Coiro has booked her follow-up to “Marry Me” less than a week after the Jennifer Lopez-starrer opened in theaters and began streaming on Peacock. She’s been tapped to helm the latest Liane Moriarty adaptation, Sony Pictures’ “The Husband’s Secret.” Deadline broke the news.
Published in 2013, the novel “follows three women whose lives unexpectedly interconnect after one of them discovers a devastating secret. Sources say it is unknown whether the film version will differ from the novel,” per Deadline.
Christy Hall (“I Am Not Okay With This”) is adapting the New York Times bestseller.
Moriarty’s “Big Little Lies” served as the source material for the Emmy-winning HBO hit of the same name. “Nine Perfect Strangers,” a Hulu mystery based on her latest novel, hit the streamer last year. Nicole Kidman starred in both series. Peacock recently greenlit a limited series based on Moriaty’s “Apples Never Fall” with Melanie Marnich (“The Affair”) serving as showrunner.
“Marry Me” debuted on Friday. It “opened to $8.2 million and was the top-viewed film on [Peacock] Friday and Saturday,” Deadline details.
“There all these women behind the camera [in ‘Marry Me’], and I really hope that little girls can read the stories and see these things and know that you don’t just have to be an actress. There are all these other roles that you can do,” Coiro told Boxoffice Pro. The rom-com follows an unlikely romance between a global pop star and a high school teacher.
Coiro’s many TV credits include “Girls5eva” and “Dead To Me.” She helmed the pilot and additional episodes of the upcoming “She-Hulk” series led by “Orphan Black’s” Tatiana Maslany that’s set to premiere on Disney+ this year.
