Kat Dennings is trying to make up for all the girls’ nights she missed out on. The “2 Broke Girls” alumna toplines “Dollface,” the story of a woman determined to make good with her girlfriends after being dumped by her longtime boyfriend. Hulu has given a 10-episode order to the comedy, Variety reports.
Created by Jordan Weiss, the series sees Dennings dealing with “her own imagination in order to literally and metaphorically re-enter the world of women, and rekindle the female friendships she left behind.” Weiss, Dennings, “I, Tonya’s” Margot Robbie, and Stephanie Laing (“Veep”) are among “Dollface’s” executive producers. The latter will direct multiple episodes.
Best known for her role as Max on CBS’ “2 Broke Girls” and as Darcy in the “Thor” franchise, Dennings’ other credits include “Big Mouth,” “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist,” and “The 40-Year-Old Virgin.”
Hulu has a number of promising series on the way including an adaptation of Celeste Ng’s best-selling novel “Little Fires Everywhere” that’s set to star Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington, and “Shrill,” an adaptation of Lindy West’s memoir that sees “SNL’s” Aidy Bryant playing an aspiring journalist who wants to change her life, but not her body. The streamer’s also got a documentary about R&B star R. Kelly’s decades of alleged abuse on the way from Lyric Cabral (“(T)ERROR”).
