Three generations of award-winning actresses are teaming up. Kate Winslet, Diane Keaton, and Mia Wasikowska are signed on to star in “Blackbird,” an English-language remake of 2014 Danish drama “Silent Heart.” Deadline broke the news.
Slated to start shooting in August, the pic centers on Lily (Keaton), a mother with a terminal illness who brings her family together for one last weekend before she commits suicide. Winslet and Wasikowska will play her daughters.
“Notting Hill” helmer Roger Michell is directing and Christian Torpe, who penned the original film, is taking on screenwriting duties.
Sherryl Clark (“Wish Upon”) will produce alongside Millennium’s David Bernardi (“Frost/Nixon”).
Winslet and Keaton have both won Oscars, the former for “The Reader” and the latter for “Annie Hall.” Winslet’s recent credits include “Wonder Wheel” and “The Mountain Between Us,” and she’s currently reunited with “Titanic” writer-director James Cameron on “Avatar 2.” Keaton can be seen in “Book Club,” in theaters now. The ensemble comedy tells the story of women whose lives are changed after reading “50 Shades of Grey.” Keaton is currently filming Zara Hayes’ “Poms,” a comedy about women in a retirement community who start a cheerleading team.
Best known for her role as Alice in Disney’s live-action “Alice in Wonderland,” Wasikowska has earned raves and awards recognition for her performances in films such as “Tracks,” “The Kids Are All Right,” and “Jane Eyre.” She can currently be seen in “Damsel,” a comedy set in the Wild West. Her upcoming projects include Mirrah Foulkes’ “Judy and Punch,” a pic about puppeteers trying to escape their town, and Mia Hansen-Løve’s “Bergman Island,” a portrait of a couple who spend the summer on the Swedish island of Faro and write screenplays.
