Katie Holmes is returning to broadcast TV. Deadline reports that the “Dawson’s Creek” alumna will lead the untitled Fox FBI drama pilot from Ilene Chaiken and Melissa Scrivner Love. Rose Rollins, who starred in the later seasons of Chaiken’s seminal LGBTQ drama “The L Word,” has also been added to the cast.
Formerly called “Mrs. Otis Regrets,” the project revolves around Holmes’ FBI Special Agent Hazel Otis. She’s “in the midst of investigating a domestic terrorism threat when a personal indiscretion — an affair with a prominent general — shatters her life and threatens her career,” per the pilot’s synopsis. “Now labeled ‘the mistress,’ Hazel Otis — wife, mother, patriot — begins to rebuild her personal life and professional reputation.”
Rollins’ character is Sara Ruiz, another FBI agent who supports Hazel after news of the affair breaks.
The pilot is created, written, and exec produced by Chaiken and Scrivner Love. Chaiken formerly served as showrunner on “Empire” and co-created “The L Word.” In Summer 2017 she renewed her under contract at 20th Century Fox. Scrivner Love has written for and produced series such as “Rosewood” and “Person of Interest.”
Holmes is also exec producing the pilot. Her last series regular TV role was Joey Potter on “Dawson’s Creek.” Her recent work includes an arc on “Ray Donovan” and a supporting turn in “Logan Lucky.” The “Batman Begins” actress made her feature directorial debut in 2016 with mother-daughter drama “All We Had.” You can catch her next in “Ocean’s 8,” out June 8.
Rollins portrayed Tasha Williams, a lesbian whose sexuality threatened her military career, from 2007 to 2009 on “The L Word.” Recently she’s appeared in “The Catch” and “Bosch.”
