“Scandal” star Kerry Washington is developing a new drama with ABC, the network behind her hit series. Variety reports that the actress is serving as executive producer for “Patrol,” “a workplace drama about four female LAPD officers who attended the police academy together five years ago and are forced to reconnect after a high-stakes, traumatic secret returns to haunt them.”
Chitra Elizabeth Sampath (“Secrets and Lies,” “Southland”) wrote the script and is on board to co-executive produce the potential series.
Washington is producing “Patrol” via Simpson Street, her production company. Simpson Street’s first project was HBO’s “Confirmation,” which saw Washington portray Anita Hill, who famously fought against sexual harassment during the Supreme Court confirmation of Clarence Thomas. The drama received two Emmy nominations: Lead Actress for Washington, and Outstanding Television Movie.
ABC and Washington inked an overall deal in April. She’s developing new projects for ABC Studios.
Washington, whose acting credits include “Django Unchained,” “Boston Legal,” and “Ray,” was recently honored with the Actors Inspiration Award by the SAG-AFTRA Foundation.
