Allison McRoberts’ quest to take down her obnoxious, schlubby husband will continue. “Kevin Can F**k Himself,” a dark comedy that deconstructs the stereotypical Sitcom Wife trope, has been renewed. “The eight-episode second season is slated to premiere on AMC+ and AMC next year,” Deadline confirms.
From creator Valerie Armstrong and exec producer Rashida Jones, “Kevin Can F**k Himself” stars Annie Murphy as the desperate wife trapped in a “King of Queens”-esque life, complete with casual sexism from her husband, dumb jokes, and a multi-cam format. When she’s away from Kevin (Eric Petersen) and his crew, Allison’s life resembles a prestige anti-hero drama. One day, Allison realizes how unhappy she is, and decides to kill Kevin.
Mary Hollis Inboden and Raymond Lee also star.
“Kevin Can F**k Himself” wrapped up its first season earlier this summer, with a finale that saw Allison’s two worlds finally colliding. “[The show] was the most watched series on AMC+ and top acquisition driver for the premium streaming bundle across all major distribution platforms,” the source reveals. “‘Kevin’ was the biggest new series launch in the history of the service and was particularly popular with young, upscale, and female-skewing viewers. The series also garnered positive reviews and strong social activity and buzz.”
“It’s Kevin’s world, Allison’s just living in it. Or is she? This series was built on a novel and unique concept, and the creative team on both sides of the camera, led by Valerie and Annie, delivered a highly entertaining first season that really got people talking and rooting for the sitcom wife as never before,” said Dan McDermott, president of original programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios.”We are excited to see this talented team move from the finale’s cliffhanger and continue Allison’s journey, pushing the bounds of conventional storytelling every step of the way.”
“We’re so grateful to AMC for giving a home to our weird little show,” Armstrong added. “Creating the first season of ‘Kevin Can F**K Himself’ and getting to tell this story has been the joy of my life. We couldn’t be more thrilled to be stuck in Worcester with Allison for another year.”
Armstrong previously worked on series including “Lodge 49” and “Masters of Sex.”
Best known for her Emmy-winning turn as Alexis on “Schitt’s Creek,” Murphy also acted in, co-created, wrote, and produced CBC web series “The Plateaus.” Next, she’s set to star in and exec produce feature comedy “Witness Protection.”
