Finally, some good news in the entertainment world: The next chapter in Eve and Villanelle’s toxic love story is coming sooner than expected. “Killing Eve’s” premiere date has been moved up. Originally slated to air April 26, the third season of the Emmy-winning series will debut April 12 on BBC America and AMC. The switch “will help the latter fill in for a pair of ‘Walking Dead’ series that were unable to finish production due to the coronavirus pandemic,” The Hollywood Reporter explains.
Created by “Fleabag’s” Phoebe Waller-Bridge, “Killing Eve” sees MI5 officer Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh) attempting to take down psychopathic assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer). The pair share a mutual obsession for one another, leaving audiences — and themselves — wondering “will they or won’t they” hook up and/or kill each other.
“We know how adored this series is and we know how keen people are for great content right now,” said Sarah Barnett, president of AMC Networks Entertainment Group and AMC Studios. “This season of ‘Killing Eve’ digs deep psychologically, and with actors like Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer, and Fiona Shaw the results are nothing short of astonishing. We literally couldn’t wait for fans to see it.”
Waller-Bridge served as lead writer on Season 1 of “Killing Eve,” with Emerald Fennell (“Promising Young Woman”) taking over the role in Season 2 and Suzanne Heathcote (“Fear the Walking Dead”) taking the reins in Season 3. The series has already been renewed for a fourth season. Laura Neal, whose credits include “Sex Education” and “Secret Diary of a Call Girl,” has been tapped as lead writer.
Comer took home the 2019 Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her work on “Killing Eve.” Oh also received a nod in the category.
