Kristen Wiig & Annie Mumolo Have Disney Live-Action Pic in the Works About Cinderella’s Stepsisters

Wiig and Mumolo in "Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar"

Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo are following up their trip to Vista Del Mar by revamping a classic fairy tale. The “Bridesmaids” and “Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar” collaborators are teaming up with Disney for a live-action pic about Cinderella’s evil stepsisters. Deadline broke the news.

Currently untitled, the pic is described as a “fairy tale musical comedy that re-imagines the Cinderella classic from the point of view of her infamous evil stepsisters. Spanning from their early childhood through the marriage of their universally beloved stepsister and beyond, we follow Anastasia and Drizella Tremaine as they struggle to uphold their family’s legacy.”

According to the source, it’s unknown whether Wiig and Mumolo will act in the film. If they do, they won’t be portraying Anastasia and Drizella “as the plan is for them to be played by younger actresses.”

Wiig and Mumolo received an Oscar nomination for their script for “Bridesmaids,” and the former starred in the box office hit. The “SNL” alumna re-teamed with Mumolo on this year’s “Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar.” The pair penned the script for the comedy and starred in it.

Wiig was recently seen alongside Gal Gadot in Patty Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman 1984.”

Mumolo’s on-screen credits include “Angie Tribeca,” “About A Boy,” and “Bad Moms.”

“Cruella,” another live-action take on a classic Disney villain, is set to hits theaters and Disney+ with Premier Access May 28. Emma Stone toplines the Cruella de Vil origin story.
