2017 is shaping up to be a big year for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” actress Kyra Sedgwick. Not only will her directorial debut “Story of a Girl” debut on Lifetime after making the rounds of the festival circuit, but earlier today Variety broke the news that she will also be starring in a new ABC drama series, “Ten Days in the Valley.” The show has gone straight-to-series at the network.
The story follows Jane Sadler (Sedgwick), harassed TV producer and single mom. She’s going through a separation, but things go from bad to nightmarish when suddenly her daughter goes missing.
This drama with a mystery at its heart is the brainchild of “Rookie Blue” co-creator Tassie Cameron. Skydance Television (“Grace and Frankie”) is producing, and Sedgwick will serve as an executive producer.
It was thought that we would be seeing Demi Moore make a return to television in the lead role, but Moore ultimately “opted not to go forth with the project,” according to Variety. Sedgwick seems to have been more than happy to step into the breach, however. “Playing Jane Sadler is exactly the deep and emotionally charged role I was searching for in a series,” said the actress. “I look forward to working with the team at Skydance, who have continuously created exceptional film and TV projects. We are all very excited that ‘Ten Days in the Valley’ has found its home on ABC.”
“Ten Days in the Valley” doesn’t have a premiere date yet, but it’s set to go into production in 2017. Ten hour-long episodes have been ordered.
New ABC President Channing Dungey enthused over the series and its star, saying “‘Ten Days in the Valley’ has everything: it’s a thriller, it’s a taut, exciting love story, and it has the kind of character our audience loves, a strong, powerful woman who is also dangerously flawed. We’re thrilled to have the amazing Kyra Sedgwick play this compelling role.”
Sedgwick was seen on our screens playing just such a strong, powerful woman in her last lead television role as Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson in Warner Bros. police procedural “The Closer.” She will also be back on the big-screen soon, playing Hailee Steinfeld’s mom in “The Edge of Seventeen,” which is in theaters September 30 following its World Premiere at TIFF.
