It’s been an exciting week for Laura Dern. She just scored a Golden Globe nomination for her supporting turn in “Marriage Story,” was recently honored with the Actress Tribute at the Gotham Awards, and has been named the recipient of the Palm Springs International Film Festival’s (PSIFF) Career Achievement Award. Dern will accept the latter at the fest’s awards gala on January 2, Variety confirmed.
“Laura Dern is one of the most outstanding and talented actresses of her generation. Over her 40-year acting career she has brought to the screen so many memorable performances including three from this year alone in ‘Big Little Lies,’ ‘Little Women,’ and ‘Marriage Story,’” said PSIFF’s Harold Matzner. “In ‘Marriage Story’ she gives yet another career defining and effortless performance as a successful lawyer leading her client through a divorce from her husband.”
Annette Bening, Sally Field, Holly Hunter, and Dern’s father, Bruce Dern, are among the past Career Achievement Award honorees.
Dern portrays a whip-smart, aggressive divorce attorney in “Marriage Story,” in theaters and on Netflix now, and Marmee, the March sisters’ doting mother, in Greta Gerwig’s “Little Women,” in theaters on Christmas.
Dern received Oscar nods for her leading turn in “Rambling Rose” and her supporting role in “Wild.” She won an Emmy for portraying the take-no-prisoners Renata Klein in “Big Little Lies.” Dern serves on the Academy’s Board of Governors and formed Jaywalker Pictures alongside Jayme Lemons in 2017.
The Palm Springs Film Fest will run January 2-13. Renée Zellweger, Charlize Theron, and Jennifer Lopez will also be recognized at the awards ceremony.
