Heads up, aspiring TV writers. Have you always wanted to learn from one of the best? “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal” creator Shonda Rhimes is starting an online course through MasterClass in which she’ll teach writing for television.
“I don’t believe in the phrase ‘aspiring writer,’” she says in this new promotional video for the course. “To me it’s just, you’re a writer.”
As one of the most successful women in television, Rhimes no doubt has a plethora of life experience from which to cull her lesson plan. Be it her first failed series, which Variety reports was about young female war correspondents, to the multiple series she has on television now, she’s bound to be an inspirational teacher.
And the course isn’t just for those who already have connections or background in TV writing. “Even if you have, like, five kids, and you work a job, you can find 10 minutes a day to write something down,” she says, “if you can write, and people can find your script, they will be thrilled to have it.”
Rhimes’ MasterClass will cost $90 and include access to the “Grey’s Anatomy” story bible and “Scandal” scripts, along with five hours worth of instructional videos and interactive exercises.
