Linda Mendoza has been tapped to helm the first two episodes of Netflix’s Michelle Buteau-starrer “Survival of the Thickest.” A press release announced the news.
Created by Buteau and Danielle Sanchez-Witzel, the comedy tells the story of Mavis Beaumont (Buteau). “Black, plus-size, and newly single (not by her choice!), Mavis unexpectedly finds herself having to rebuild her life as a struggling stylist. She’s determined to not only survive but thrive with the support of her chosen family, a body-positive attitude, and a cute v-neck with some lip gloss,” the show’s synopsis details.
“Survival of the Thickest” is based on Buteau’s 2020 book of the same name. The project’s supporting cast includes Tasha Smith (“Empire”) and Tone Bell (“Fam”).
Mendoza counts “Never Have I Ever,” “Girs5Eva,” and “30 Rock” among her previous credits.
Buteau’s first hour-long comedy special, “Michelle Buteau: Welcome to Buteaupia,” launched on Netflix in 2020. Her acting credits include “Always Be My Maybe” and “Tales of the City.”
