This year’s LA Femme International Film Festival has come to a close. Focused on women filmmakers who create commercial films for a worldwide audience, the fest just wrapped its 14th edition.
Donna McRae’s “Lost Gully Road” was named Best Feature. The horror pic centers on an aimless young woman staying in a secluded cottage in the forest. A portrait of nine women from around the world, Inessa Blokhina’s “She is the Ocean” took home the honor for Best Documentary. The doc’s characters range from 12 to 83 years old, and they’ve all chosen “to make the Ocean the center of their physical, philosophical, and professional lives,” according to the film’s synopsis.
The fest’s other big winners include Marcia Kimpton, who received Best Feature Director for “Bardo Blues,” a Thailand-set drama about a man looking for answers about his mother, and Catherine Dudley-Rose, who was named Best Feature Writer for “Parallel Cords,” the story of a young violinist struggling to escape her musician father’s legacy.
