Lynne Ramsay has another project in the works. Last year she signed on to direct an adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon,” and now word comes that the BAFTA Award winner is teaming up with Rooney Mara on an upcoming film. According to The Film Stage, Ramsay told El Español that Mara is attached to star in “Polaris.” The pic re-teams Ramsay with her “You Were Never Really There” star Joaquin Phoenix.
Plot details about the project are currently unknown.
The story of a mercenary hired to rescue a politician’s kidnapped daughter by any means necessary, “You Were Never Really There” landed Ramsay the Best Screenplay honor at Cannes 2017. Her other credits include “We Need to Talk About Kevin,” “Morvern Callar,” and “Ratcatcher.”
A two-time Oscar nominee, Mara has received nods for “Carol” and “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” Her upcoming slate includes “Women Talking,” Sarah Polley’s adaptation of Miriam Toews’ bestselling novel of the same name. Set in a remote Mennonite colony, the book tells the story of a group of women struggling to reconcile their faith in the aftermath of a series of sexual assaults perpetrated by the colony’s men.
