“The Powerpuff Girls” has found its director. Maggie Kiley has signed on to helm the pilot of The CW’s live-action take on the iconic Cartoon Network animated series, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.
Written by Oscar-winning “Juno” scribe Diablo Cody, the CW project follows the Powerpuff Girls, who “used to be America’s pint-sized superheroes,” and are now “disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime fighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever?” the source teases.
Kiley, whose upcoming slate includes Peacock limited series “Dr. Death,” recently helmed episodes of “Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story.” The CW vet’s other credits include “Riverdale” and “Katy Keene.” She made her feature directorial debut with 2013 coming-of-age story “Brightest Star” and followed it up with 2015’s “Dial a Prayer” and “Caught.”
“My advice for any director is to keep directing,” Kiley told us in a 2015 interview. “Keep finding ways to tell stories. It is easy to get sedentary or to make a list of all of the things standing in your way. If you keep making work, you will keep growing, and ultimately you will be much happier. And specifically for women, I would say, don’t wait for the perfect time to have a family! I have two young children, and they make my artistic life that much more rich because I have a full — if sometimes exhausting — life.”
