Marie Amiguet’s search for snow leopards is coming to theaters. Oscilloscope snagged U.S. rights to “The Velvet Queen” (“La Panthere des neiges”), a documentary that sees Amiguet following “award-winning nature photographer Vincent Munier and writer Sylvain Tesson on a journey across the Tibetan highlands to document the infamously elusive snow leopard,” Variety details.
“The Velvet Queen” just had its world premiere at Cannes. The film explores the “subtle art of waiting from a blind spot, tracking animals, and finding the patience to catch sight of the beasts,” and considers “the place of humans among living beings.”
Oscilloscope Laboratories’ Dan Berger commented, “‘The Velvet Queen’ is a stunningly beautiful experience, filled with a lifetime’s worth of wisdom and insight. Marie Amiguet’s non-traditional storytelling truly embraces the adage ‘it’s not the destination, it’s the journey.’ And what a wonderful journey it is.”
“What we wanted to talk about in this film is the love of nature and of its beauty. If we want to take care of nature, we have to know it and love it. That is the beginning of everything,” Amiguet emphasized ahead of the film’s premiere.
“The Velvet Queen” marks Amiguet’s directorial debut.
