“Junkhearts” director Tinge Krishnan’s musical “Been So Long” has generated buzz ever since its footage was previewed at Cannes last year. Netflix ultimately walked away with the distribution rights after the biggest UK deal to date for the streamer. Now, Shadow and Act has announced that “Been So Long” will finally make its way to the small screen next month.
“Been So Long” sees “Chewing Gum’s” Michaela Coel as Simone, a single mother who is charmed by a “handsome yet troubled stranger” (Arinze Kene) during a night out in Camden. The cast also features the musical talents of Ronke Adekoluejo (“Christopher Robin”), Rakie Ayola (“No Offence”), and newcomer Mya Lewis.
The soundtrack is a mix of “RnB, Nu Soul, UK dance, and cinematic orchestration, featuring music from up and coming guest producers.” Greenacre Films’ Nadine Marsh-Edwards and Amanda Jenks produce.
Tinge’s short film “Shadowscan” received a BAFTA award in 2001. Her feature “Junkhearts” was also very successful on the festival circuit.
Alongside her award-winning Channel 4 comedy “Chewing Gum,” Coel’s credits include “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” two episodes of “Black Mirror,” and “Black Earth Rising,” a BBC drama starring Coel as a Britain-based law investigator who confronts her childhood as its relates to the Rwandan genocide. She is also set to exec produce, write, and star in “Jan 22,” a BBC drama about sexual consent.
“Been So Long” drops on Netflix October 26.
