The PGA Awards is set to celebrate Mindy Kaling with a prestigious honor. The prolific screenwriter, actress, producer, and writer has been named as this year’s recipient of the Guild’s Norman Lear Achievement Award. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news.
Given in recognition of a producer or producing team for their body of work on the small screen, the award counts Shonda Rhimes (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Bridgerton”), Marta Kauffman (“Friends,” “Grace and Frankie”), and Amy Sherman-Palladino (“Gilmore Girls,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) among its previous honorees.
Kaling will receive the award at the 34th annual PGA Awards, set to take place February 25.
“It is such an honor to be asked to receive the Norman Lear Award, a prize named after the prolific and groundbreaking producer I am so inspired by. To be included in this prestigious group of past recipients is humbling, and I’m so grateful to the Producers Guild for this recognition,” said Kaling.

From ‘The Mindy Project,’ to ‘Never Have I Ever,’ to ‘The Sex Lives of College Girls,’ Kaling has proven just how much audiences have been craving funny, relatable stories about characters we’ve rarely see as television protagonists. We are so happy to present her with the Norman Lear Award at this year’s PGA Awards ceremony.”
Kaling is a six-time Emmy nominee whose producing credits include “The Office,” “The Mindy Project,” “The Sex Lives of College Girls,” and “Never Have I Ever.” She co-created the latter three series. She had a supporting role on “The Office” and led “The Mindy Project.” Kaling produced and wrote 2019’s “Late Night,” a comedy about the first female TV writer hired by a late-night host. She co-starred with Emma Thompson in the film. She was last seen in the second season of Apple TV+ drama “The Morning Show,” which she has a recurring role in.
