“Misbehaviour” opened in UK theaters just before cinemas were closed due to COVID-19. Following its opening weekend, “all cinemas in the country were shuttered,” Deadline notes. However, audiences will still get the chance to see the dramedy about the 1970 Miss World pageant. Per the source, “Misbehaviour” is hitting digital platforms in the UK April 15.
Directed by Philippa Lowthorpe and written by Gaby Chiappe and Rebecca Frayn, “Misbehaviour” focuses on the women’s rights activists who disrupted the beauty pageant, as well as the first Miss Grenada, Jennifer Hosten (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), who would go on to win the crown, becoming the first black Miss World. The pic’s cast also includes Keira Knightley, Lesley Manville (“Harlots”), Jessie Buckley (“Wild Rose”), and Keeley Hawes (“Bodyguard”).
Deadline also reports that “The Assistant,” Kitty Green’s drama about the young assistant (Julia Garner) of a Harvey Weinstein-like figure, will launch online in the UK on May 1. It was originally scheduled for a May 3 theatrical release.
“Military Wives” also received an early VOD launch in the UK in response to the coronavirus outbreak, and “The Perfect Candidate” launched on VOD in lieu of a theatrical release.
Other titles that hit VOD and digital earlier than expected include “Never Rarely Sometimes Always,” “Birds of Prey,” “Emma.,” and “The Invisible Man.”
