Modern Films & Amazon Prime Team Up to Stream “Skate Kitchen,” “The Perfect Candidate,” & More in UK

"Skate Kitchen"

Crystal Moselle’s “Skate Kitchen,” Haifaa Al-Mansour’s “The Perfect Candidate,” Nancy Biurski’s “The Rape Of Recy Taylor,” and more films about and/or made by women will soon be available to stream on Amazon Prime in the UK and Ireland. According to Deadline, the films’ distributor, Modern Films, has inked a deal with the streamer: “Amazon has licensed UK and Ireland steaming rights from Modern on the slate and will launch each title following its theatrical release in the territory.”

The other Modern titles coming to the streamer are Kim Longinotto’s “Shooting the Mafia”; Alice Rohrwacher’s “Happy as Lazzaro”; Pamela B. Green’s “Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blache”; Sara Driver’s “Boom for Real: The Late Teenage Years of Jean-Michel Basquiat”; Sacha Polak’s “Dirty God”; Emily Atef’s “3 Days in Quiberon”; and “Ferrante Fever,” co-written by Laura Buffoni.

“The launch of these films on Amazon Prime Video represents an affirmation of the work Modern Films is doing in the space around women in front of and behind the camera, dealing with pressing social issues through the power of cinema and the lens of storytelling,” commented Modern Films founder Eve Gabereau.

Some of the films have already hit UK theaters and will begin streaming on Amazon Prime this week. “The license on each title ranges from 12-24 months, with the deal set to run its course by October 1, 2021,” the source adds.
