Kai Yu Wu and Jessica Henwick have a meta, inclusive take on a familiar story in the works at Amazon. The streamer scored rights to “Nancy Wu Done It Again,” “a new spin on ‘Nancy Drew,”‘ in a competitive bidding process, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Set to be co-written by Wu and Henwick, the potential series follows “a frustrated Asian American YA novelist who suddenly finds herself transported to one of her own books and must work with the titular character she created — and now hates — to solve an unfinished mystery.”
“Nancy Wu Done It” is described as “‘Pleasantville meets ‘Nancy Drew'” and is being made in association with Vertigo Entertainment.
Wu’s credits include “The Flash” and “Hannibal.” She created “The Ghost Bride,” a Netflix international series.
Henwick starred in “Iron Fist.” “The Defenders,” “Underwater,” and “Game of Thrones” are among her other acting credits. She penned shorts “Baliko” and “The Heart of the Forest.”
Other Amazon series in the works include an adaptation of Octavia Butler sci-fi “Dawn” from Victoria Mahoney and Ava DuVernay, and “Rodeo Queens,” a mockumentary-style comedy from Dakota Johnson, Christy Hall, and Carrie Brownstein.
