Niecy Nash has signed on to the first movie greenlit by Lifetime under Robin Roberts’ movie and documentary banner. The “Claws” actress will star in “Kidnapped: The Kamiyah Mobley Story,” Deadline confirms.
Based on a true story, the pic is set in 1998 and sees 18-year-old Kamiyah (Rayven Symone Ferrell, “The Hate U Give”) discover she was abducted as a baby and the family she was raised in isn’t her own. “The film will be followed by a companion documentary featuring the real-life people depicted in the movie,” the source notes.
Nash will play Gloria, the woman who kidnapped Kamiyah by posing as a nurse. Ta’Rhonda Jones (“Empire”) portrays Kamiyah’s biological mother.
“I’m thrilled to share this young woman’s story and produce something so poignant for the Lifetime audience,” said Roberts, President of Rock’n Roberts Productions and anchor of “Good Morning America.” “I can’t imagine anyone else tackling the complex role of Gloria than Niecy Nash. She’s a talented and versatile actress and I can’t wait to see it all come together.”
Nash reprises her leading role as a nail salon owner and money launderer in Season 3 of “Claws.” The TNT crime drama returned June 9. “When They See Us,” “Scream Queens,” and “Getting On” are among her recent credits.
