Nikole Beckwith’s sophomore feature has secured distribution. Bleecker Street scored North American rights to “Together Together,” Beckwith’s follow-up to 2015 Saoirse Ronan-starrer “Stockholm, Pennsylvania.” A press release announced that the comedy will be released in 2021.
Penned by Beckwith, “Together Together” follows Anna (Patti Harrison, “Shrill”), a young loner, and Matt (Ed Helms, “The Office”), a single man in his 40s who hires her as a surrogate. The “two strangers come to realize this unexpected relationship will quickly challenge their perceptions of connection, boundaries, and the particulars of love,” according to the pic’s synopsis.
The film’s supporting cast includes Anna Konkle (“Pen15”), Sufe Bradshaw (“Veep”), and Rosalind Chao (“Mulan”).
“I couldn’t be happier to partner with Bleecker Street on the life of this movie,” said Beckwith. “’Together Together’ has been my heart for a while now and as a long-time admirer of Bleecker’s work and philosophy, it’s exciting to know I get to pin it to the right sleeve.”
“Together Together” will make its world premiere at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, slated to take place January 28-February 3 online and in person via Satellite Screens (public health permitting). Women directed 47 percent of the fest’s overall feature slate.
Beckwith’s debut feature, “Stockholm, Pennsylvania,” sees a young woman who was kidnapped when she was a child reuniting with a family she barely remembers.
When we asked Beckwith her advice for other women directors she told us, “Trust yourself. Be your own best advocate. Be willing to be ‘difficult,’ or at least labeled as difficult. It doesn’t mean you are. It just means you’re strong. That’s my only gendered advice so far. Let’s all keep going, and someday we will be known simply as directors.”
