Described as “compassionate and horrifying,” “visually stunning, masterfully acted, [and] impeccably designed from sound to visual effects” by Sundance jurors who crowned it with the fest’s top honor, “Nanny” has found a home. Blumhouse and Amazon Prime Video acquired rights to the horror-drama, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Written and directed by Nikyatu Jusu, the pic tells the story of Aisha (Anna Diop, “Us”), a Senegalese immigrant working as a nanny for a wealthy family in New York City’s Upper East Side. Aisha, who is working to bring her own child to the United States, experiences terrifying, violent visions. Michelle Monaghan (“The Path”) co-stars.
“We’re proud to have writer-director Nikyatu Jusu’s ‘Nanny’ as part of our slate for Amazon. It’s a gem of a horror film that combines impressive filmmaking and powerful storytelling, and is worthy of the Grand Jury Prize it was awarded at Sundance,” said Jason Blum.
Julie Rapaport, head of movies at Amazon, added, “From the exceptional performances to its strong visual language, we can’t wait to share ‘Nanny’ with our global audience and to continue our longstanding collaboration with Blumhouse.”
“Nanny” marks Jusu’s feature debut.
