“Fam’s” Nina Dobrev has signed on to star and exec produce “Sick Girl,” Deadline reports. The indie comedy marks casting director Jennifer Cram’s feature directing and writing debut.
The pic tells the story of Wren Pepper (Dobrev). Worried that her long-time friends are drifting apart, she tells a simple white lie that “begins to tear [the group] apart, taking them all on an unexpected ride,” the source details.
“The truest relationships of my life have been those of my close girlfriends,” said Cram. “I’m grateful to be able share an inside glimpse to this incredible bond with audiences everywhere.”
Best known for her role as Elena on “The Vampire Diaries,” Dobrev most recently starred in “Fam,” a CBS sitcom that was cancelled after a season. “xXx: Return of Xander Cage,” “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” and “The Final Girls” are among her film credits.
Cram has worked in the casting department on series such as “Casual” and “Ray Donovan” and films including “22 Jump Street, “Oz the Great and Powerful,” and “Inception.” Cram joins a number of other women who are stepping into the director’s chair after spending years working in other fields of the industry. Oscar-nominated “Mudbound” cinematographer Rachel Morrison is set to make her feature debut with boxing drama “Flint Strong” and Shauna Duggins, the Emmy-winning stunt coordinator behind “GLOW,” is in pre-production on “Guardian,” an action pic that will mark her first directing credit.
