The Paley Center for Media is set to celebrate Carol Burnett and Lily Tomlin. Described as “comic trailblazers who left their indelible mark on television,” the pair are among those to be honored at the upcoming Paley Honors: A Special Tribute to Television’s Comedy Legends. The event will take place November 21 in Beverly Hills.
Maureen J. Reidy, the Paley Center’s President and CEO, emphasized that the recipients of the Paley Honors Awards have “brought so much joy to generations of television audiences.” A press release announcing the news explains that the Honors “acknowledge the unique power of comedy to connect us, to make complex issues understandable, and remind us of our shared humanity, all through the power of laughter.”
“I am thrilled to be in such great company,” said Burnett, a six-time Emmy winner. The “Carol Burnett Show” alumna has been inducted into the Television Hall of Fame and accepted the inaugural Carol Burnett Award during the Golden Globes’ awards ceremony this year. “Future recipients will be chosen based on their body of work and the lasting impact that their television career achievements have had on both the industry and audiences,” the HFPA specified. Burnett voices a character in “Toy Story 4,” in theaters now.
Tomlin stars in Netflix’s “Grace and Frankie” alongside Jane Fonda. The sitcom has been renewed for a sixth season. Also a six-time Emmy winner, Tomlin received an Oscar nod for her supporting role in “Nashville” in 1976.
