We recently reported about Sarah Gavron’s latest, Suffragette, previously titled The Fury, when Carey Mulligan was in early talks to star.
The film has since been retitled, Mulligan is signed, and Pathe (distributor of the upcoming Philomena) will distribute the film in the UK and France and will also handle international sales.
Penned by Abi Morgan, Suffragette follows Maud (Mulligan) a “foot soldier of the early feminist movement.” A woman of working class means, Maud has seen peaceful protest accomplish nothing, so she becomes more and more radicalized until she turns to violence to force change.
The film will be produced by Faye Ward and Alison Owen. Katherine Butler, Cameron McCracken and Chris Collins will executive produce.
Suffragette is set to begin shooting in February.
