African American-focused streamer BET+ is launching this fall, and its roster is already full of original content from “Girls Trip” screenwriter Tracy Oliver, Tyler Perry, and others. THR now confirms that “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’s” Paula Patton has signed on to star in the streamer’s first original feature, “Sacrifice,” a legal thriller with series possibility.
“Sacrifice” sees Patton as Daniella Hernandez, an entertainment lawyer juggling prominent and wealthy clients. The cast also includes Erica Ash (“In Contempt”) as a district attorney and Daniella’s sorority sister, and “Empire’s Daniella V. Bozeman as her assistant.
The film will premiere on BET+ sometime next year. It will double as a pilot for a potential series pickup following its predicted success.
Patton’s previous credits include “Precious” and romantic comedies “About Last Night” and “The Perfect Match.”
“We are thrilled to have Paula and the talented ensemble cast join our first original film on BET+, as we continue to strengthen our commitment to quality storytelling while meeting our audience on all platforms,” said Connie Orlando, head of programming at BET Networks.
BET+ snagged the rights to Tracy Oliver’s “First Wives Club” series last fall. Based on the 1996 film of the same name, the half-hour series will follow a group of women who join arms and take revenge after their respective marriages fall apart. “First Wives Club” features Jill Scott, Ryan Michelle Bathe, and Michelle Buteau.
