Another K-Pop-inspired project is in the works. Just weeks ago word came that Lionsgate had acquired rights to Rebel Wilson’s script for “Seoul Girls,” a comedy feature that sees a Korean American high school girl and her friends entering a worldwide talent competition to be the opening act for the world’s biggest K-pop boy band. Now Deadline reports that an hourlong, K-Pop-themed musical drama is in development at Peacock, NBCUniversal’s upcoming streaming service.
Titled “Olympic Boulevard,” the series tells the story of “a disgraced Korean American former K-Pop star who finds his chance at redemption and a possible comeback when he agrees to teach at one of the first K-Pop training schools in America.”
Paula Yoo penned the script for the project and is among its exec producers. “Supergirl,” “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists,” and “Mozart in the Jungle” are among her previous credits. Also an author, her books include YA novel “Good Enough” and non-fiction picture book biography “Shining Star: The Anna May Wong Story.”
