Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s epic week just got even better. Less than 48 hours after dominating the Emmys on Sunday, the “Fleabag” and “Killing Eve” creator has signed “a substantial” overall deal with Amazon, Deadline reports.
The deal, which is reportedly around $20 million a year, sees Waller-Bridge creating and producing new television content for Amazon Studios that will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, the home of “Fleabag.”
“I’m insanely excited to be continuing my relationship with Amazon,” said Waller-Bridge. “Working with the team on ‘Fleabag’ was the creative partnership dreams are made of. It really feels like home. I can’t wait to get going!”
Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, emphasized that Waller-Bridge is “clever, brilliant, generous, and a virtuoso on multiple fronts,” and described “Fleabag” as “a gift” to Prime Video customers.
“Fleabag’s” second and final season was named best Comedy Series at the Emmys, and won a total six trophies, including Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and Writing for a Comedy Series for Waller-Bridge. The dark comedy, which originated as a one-woman show Waller-Bridge performed at the 2013 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, tells the story of a guinea pig-themed cafe owner mourning the loss of her best friend.
“Killing Eve’s” Jodie Comer won Lead Actress in a Drama award. Waller-Bridge served as showrunner on the first season of the BBC America spy thriller.
Waller-Bridge is working on the script for the 25th James Bond Movie. Her acting credits include “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” “Broadchurch,” and “Crashing,” and she created the former, a comedy series about 20-somethings who live in an abandoned hospital. Alongside frequent collaborator Vicky Jones, she created “Run,” an upcoming HBO comedic thriller. She will co-star in the series.
