Rose Byrne is ready to work up a sweat and build an aerobics empire. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Apple TV+ has given a green light to a second season of “Physical,” a dark comedy set in the ’80s that sees Byrne playing a stay-at-home mom who is tired of being underestimated and trusting her dingdong husband with her fate. A life-changing aerobics class inspires Sheila (Byrne) to reclaim her identify and start teaching a class.
Created by Annie Weisman (“Desperate Housewives”), “Physical” is just about to conclude its first-season run. Weisman serves as showrunner.
“We couldn’t be more proud to showcase Annie Weisman’s singular take on this darkly funny, heartbreaking, and bold story,” said Michelle Lee, director of domestic programming at Apple TV+. “And then we got to watch Rose Byrne inhabit this incredible, multilayered character, giving us an unforgettable tour de force performance. We have been thrilled to see audiences around the world fall in love and feel seen by this show and we can’t wait for everyone to experience the next chapter in Sheila’s journey towards personal empowerment.”
A two-time Emmy nominee for her supporting role in “Damages,” Byrne’s other credits include “Mrs. America,” “Spy,” and “Bridesmaids.” She’s among “Physical’s” exec producers.
