Larysa Kondracki is taking a big step in her relationship with Amazon Studios, Deadline reports. After serving as showrunner on Amazon’s “Picnic at Hanging Rock” and helming three episodes of the Natalie Dormer-starrer, Kondracki has signed a first-look television deal with the company. The pact sees her developing and producing original series for Amazon Studios with the option to direct select series. She’ll produce all of the projects via her banner, Smadginelli Inc.
“Larysa has a unique, particular vision and we were blown away by her take on ‘Picnic At Hanging Rock,’” said Jennifer Salke, president of Amazon Studios. “She made the story seem modern, timeless, and avant-garde all at the same time. By signing her to a first look deal, we have a triple threat player who will enthrall our Prime Video audience with whatever she does next.”
Kondracki added, “I am thrilled to be back in business with Amazon. Jen Salke and the entire Amazon team were such incredible collaborators during ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock,’ and I’m excited for the opportunity to be creating together again. I can’t think of better partners to have in this next chapter and look forward to what’s to come.”
Based on Joan Lindsay’s 1967 novel of the same name, “Picnic at Hanging Rock” tells the story of schoolgirls who mysteriously disappear, leaving their school and town in shock.
Kondracki made her feature debut with 2010’s “The Whisleblower,” a drama based on U.N. Peacekeeper Kathryn Bolkovac. Rachel Weisz starred in the pic. On the small screen, Kondracki’s credits include “The Americans,” “The Walking Dead,” and “Better Call Saul.” She helmed the pilot of “The Fix,” an ABC drama about a former prosecutor who returns to the job in the hopes of putting a murderer behind bars. Marcia Clark — best known for serving as the lead prosecutor on O.J. Simpson’s murder trial — co-wrote the project.
