The most terrifying mom in film history is getting much-deserved props. “Carrie” star Piper Laurie will be celebrated with a special event in her honor at the upcoming Ojai Film Festival, The Hollywood Reporter writes.
The event, titled An Evening with Piper Laurie, is co-presented by Women in Film. The three-time Oscar nominee will be in attendance at the event, which will kick off with a screening of Linda Feferman’s half-hour documentary on Laurie’s prolific career: The actress has starred in over 100 films. Sharon Lawrence (“Rizzoli & Isles,” “NYPD Blue”) will then conduct a live Q&A with Laurie.
The event will come to a close with a screening of 1961’s “The Hustler,” one of Laurie’s best-known films. In it, she plays an alcoholic and part-time college student who develops a romance with a pool hustler (Paul Newman). Laurie received Oscar nods for “The Hustler,” “Carrie,” and “Children of a Lesser God.” She is a nine-time Emmy nominee, and took home a trophy in 1987 for “Promise.” Among her other credits are “Hesher,” “Twin Peaks,” and “St. Elsewhere.” She released a memoir in 2011, “Learning to Live Out Loud.”
THR reports that the mini-doc being screened is “part of Women in Film’s Legacy series, produced by Ilene Kahn Power,” and “features filmed interviews with pioneering women behind and in front of the camera.”
“I’m thrilled to launch the Ojai Film Festival Special Series with a program that showcases my varied career,” Laurie said in a statement. “This even gives me a chance to connect with my fans in an intimate setting and I’m honored.”
An Evening With Piper Laurie will be held held March 11 at the Ojai Art Center.
