“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” is just the beginning of Rachel Brosnahan’s career at Amazon. The Emmy-winning actress has inked a first-look deal with Amazon Studios, Deadline reports. The pact will see Brosnahan developing TV series that will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video via her shingle, Scrap Paper Pictures.
Amazon Prime is home to “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” in which Brosnahan portrays a well-to-do ’50s housewife who pursues a career in standup comedy after her husband leaves her. Brosnahan is also starring in and producing Amazon Studios’ “I’m Your Woman.” The upcoming Julia Hart feature is about a woman who goes on the run with her child to escape her husband’s crimes.
Deadline notes that Brosnahan’s first-look deal came about after her recent contract renegotiation for “Maisel.” Her salary will triple to about $300k per episode for Season 3 and she’ll receive some of the series’ backend earnings.
“A breakout star, Rachel has infused the role of Miriam ‘Midge’ Maisel with charm, wit, and a little bit of chutzpah that brings the world of ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ to life,” said Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios. “We are thrilled to expand our relationship with her as an actress and a producer, and I can’t wait to see what new characters and stories she creates.”
“I have felt immensely supported professionally, personally, and artistically in my time working with Amazon so far and am thrilled to be embarking on this new journey with them,” Brosnahan added. “I look forward to exploring new pathways into established genres and working alongside the Amazon team to amplify stories and storytellers that have been left out of the mainstream narrative for far too long.”
Along with her Emmy, Brosnahan has won two Golden Globes and a SAG award for her performance in “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” She also received an Emmy nod for her guest turn on “House of Cards.”
Up next for Brosnahan is Season 3 of “Maisel,” expected later this year, and “Ironbark,” a Cold War drama that’s currently in post-production. Her past on-screen credits include “Manhattan,” “Louder Than Bombs,” and “Change in the Air.” She previously produced 2018 short “Femme,” a comedy tracing a young man’s path to self-acceptance.
