Angie Tribeca and Olivia Pope are teaming up. Rashida Jones and Kerry Washington are set to collaborate on an adaptation of “Goldie Vance” for 20th Century Fox, Variety reports. The former will write and direct the pic and the latter will produce.
Created by Hope Larson and artist Brittney Williams, the graphic novel series follows Goldie Vance, a precocious 16-year-old “who has ambitions of becoming a historic Miami hotel’s in-house detective,” the source writes. “She gets embroiled in uncovering an international crime ring that challenges her in ways she never imagined.”
According to Variety, the film will be “in the vein of ‘Nancy Drew’ and ‘Eloise.’”
“Goldie is exactly the kind of fearless, curious, and funny heroine we need right now,” Jones said in a statement.
Washington added, “Goldie Vance will steal your heart. She’s already stolen mine!”
Both women acknowledged how excited they are to collaborate with one another.
Jones stars in TBS’ “Angie Tribeca,” a spoof of cop shows that’ll return for a fourth season in 2018. “Goldie Vance” will mark her feature directorial debut. She previously helmed eps of “Angie Tribeca” and “Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On.” Her writing credits include “Black Mirror” and “Celeste & Jesse Forever.”
The “Parks and Recreation” alumna recently spoke out about her experience working on the script for “Toy Story 4” after Pixar founder John Lasseter was accused of inappropriate conduct. “We did not leave Pixar because of unwanted advances,” Jones and writing partner Will McCormack said. “That is untrue. We parted ways because of creative and, more importantly, philosophical differences.” They suggested that “women and people of color do not have an equal creative voice” in Pixar’s culture, and encouraged the company to “be leaders in bolstering, hiring, and promoting more diverse and female storytellers and leaders. We hope we can encourage all those who have felt like their voices could not be heard in the past to feel empowered,” they concluded.
Washington toplines “Scandal,” a political thriller in its seventh and final season on ABC. She established her production company, Simpson Street, in 2016. Emmy-nominated HBO movie “Confirmation” marked its first project. She starred as Anita Hill, a lawyer who fought against sexual harassment in the workplace.
