Get ready for more Rebel Girls. The media brand behind the “Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls” book series and “Rebel Podcast” is entering into a development pact with Imagine Entertainment. The plan is to produce features, scripted and unscripted episodics, and historical content that celebrate “key woman creators, innovators, leaders, and pioneers throughout history,” Variety reports.
Rebel Girls’ CEO Jes Wolfe and entertainment prez Martha Adams will collaborate with Imagine Kids + Family prez Stephanie Sperber and Imagine Documentaries exec VP Sara Bernstein on the projects.
Rebel Girls’ mission is to “inspire and instill confidence” in girls all over the world. Its titles include several “Good Night Stories” collections — which cumulatively recognize the work and achievements of hundreds of real-life women — and chapter books about Madam C.J. Walker, Ada Lovelace, and Dr. Wangari Maathai.
A New York Times bestseller, “Good Night Stories” has sold over 6.5 million copies in 85 countries, and has been printed in 49 languages. Now in its fourth season, “Rebel Podcast” has 11 million downloads.
“The trailblazing attitude behind Rebel Girls, which celebrates girls taking control of their own stories, breaking norms, and creating their future, resonates with girls and boys now more than ever,” Sperber said. “We are excited to work with Rebel Girls and build on what they started of celebrating pioneering women and girls, globally. With a focus on representation, we will create a dream team of diverse female writers, directors, actors, and crew to bring these extraordinary stories to wider audiences.”
Wolfe explained, “Our mission at Rebel Girls is to not only inspire future generations of girls but to address the unequal representation in media that has contributed to lower confidence in girls. Imagine, known for their best-in-class storytelling, will be a phenomenal partner with Rebel Girls to be a force for good in addressing the long-standing gender inequities that are still prolific in kids television.”
