Reese Witherspoon Will Star In and Produce “Election” Sequel “Tracy Flick Can’t Win”

"Election"

Reese Witherspoon is ready to pick Flick. The Oscar winner has signed on to topline and produce a sequel to “Election” that will see her reprising the role of Tracy Flick. Titled “Tracy Flick Can’t Win,” the pic is based on Tom Perotta’s book of the same name. Deadline confirmed the news.

Released in 1999, “Election” tells the story of a high school teacher’s (Matthew Broderick) plot to derail the campaign of an overachieving student (Witherspoon) running for student body president. The film is also based on a novel by Perrotta.

Perotta’s “Tracy Flick Can’t Win” hit shelves earlier this year. It finds Tracy back at high school, where she’s working as an assistant principal and dreaming of taking over as principal.

Witherspoon won an Oscar for “Walk the Line” and received a nod for “Wild.” She currently stars alongside Jennifer Aniston on “The Morning Show,” a soapy Apple TV+ drama set in the world of morning television. No word on when to expect Season 3 of the series. Her upcoming slate includes a third installment of the “Legally Blonde” franchise.
