Renée Zellweger has another small screen project in the works. The two-time Oscar winner’s latest project, true crime series “The Thing About Pam,” premieres on NBC tonight, and now she’s signed on to another NBCUniversal title. Variety reports that she’ll topline “Avenger Field,” a one-hour drama in development at Peacock.
The series “tells the story of those that established a clandestine all female US Airforce program called the WASPs (Women Airforce Service Pilots) to battle Hitler from home. Inspired by the true story of WASP leader Jackie Cohran (Zellweger) and the diverse group of women who fought the system, skeptics, and even sabotage to bring everyone home safely,” per the source.
The creator of BET’s “The Quad,” Felicia D. Henderson, will serve as showrunner. “Empire” and “Fringe” are among her other credits.
Two-time Emmy nominee Susanna White is directing. Her small screen credits include “The Deuce” and “Generation Kill,” and she’s helmed features such as “Woman Walks Ahead” and “Our Kind of Traitor.”
Zellweger won Oscars for “Judy” and “Cold Mountain” and received nods for “Chicago” and “Bridget Jones’s Diary.”
