It’s no secret that police procedurals are a staple of network television. That said, there are very few series featuring an all-female detective team in the network crime landscape. Fox is looking to change that with a new show from “Rizzoli & Isles” creator Janet Tamaro.
As first reported by Variety, Tamaro’s new series, currently entitled “Smoke and Mirrors,” will follow a retired female detective who is pulled pack into the job from her now-quiet family life. In true Tamaro fashion, the detective teams up with another female cop — a young undercover detective — and crime and drama ensue from there. Tamaro will both write and exec produce the project.
“Rizzoli & Isles,” which ran on TNT for seven seasons, follows Boston detective Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) and medical examiner Dr. Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander) as they work together to solve various crimes. The show was adapted from Tess Gerritsen’s novel series of the same name.
Tamaro’s previous writing credits include episodes of “Bones,” “Lost,” and “Law and Order: SVU.”
