Robin Roberts’ next project will see her engaging in conversations with women performers, artists, and athletes. The veteran anchor and journalist will welcome Debbie Allen, Jamie Lee Curtis, Sheila E., Billie Jean King, Tig Notaro, Josie Totah, and more to “Turning the Tables with Robin Roberts.”
In each episode of the Disney+ show, host Roberts will sit down with three high-profile women for an intimate chat. “The guests often ‘turn the tables’ and interview Roberts and each other in heartfelt and often humorous conversations that showcase authenticity and vulnerability,” the source describes. “These conversations delve deeper and are more candid than traditional interviews. In one episode, Roberts and her guests explore their identity, both personally and professionally, and the insecurities they’ve faced in their careers. Other segments feature topics such as overcoming both health and emotional issues and experiences that have led them toward the freedom to live their own truth.”
Roberts also executive produces the show, as does a team comprised of women, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ folks. Kadine Anckle serves as showrunner.
“This project is very personal to me, and I’m proud to bring it to Disney+,” said Roberts. “The guests we’ve assembled are an amazing group of women who have all achieved great success in their various careers. Although they represent different age groups and backgrounds, they were all willing to open up and share their unique stories with honesty and humor.” She added, “I welcome viewers to come along with me on this journey as we learn about the importance of expressing vulnerability and connecting with others.”
Roberts has been an anchor on “Good Morning America” since 2002. She won an Emmy for her work on the long-running morning show, and another for her part in covering Obama’s first inauguration for ABC News. TV movies “Robin Roberts Presents: Mahalia” and “Stolen by My Mother: The Kamiyah Mobley Story” and documentary “Tuskegee Airmen: Legacy of Courage” are among her exec producing credits. Next, Roberts will produce an ESPN Films documentary about WNBA player Maya Moore and her fight to free Jonathan Irons, a man wrongfully convicted and incarcerated for burglary and assault.
