Rosario Dawson may be getting her own show. Deadline reports that the “Luke Cage,” “Iron Fist,” and “The Defenders” actress has signed on to star in “Briarpatch,” an hourlong pilot for USA Network. She’s also among the thriller’s producers.
Based on Ross Thomas’ 1984 novel, “Briarpatch” sees Dawson playing Allegra “Pick” Dill, a talented and tenacious PI working for a Senator in Washington, DC. “When her ten-years-younger sister, a homicide detective, is killed by a car bomb, Allegra returns to her corrupt Texas hometown. What begins as a search for the murderer becomes a fraught and dangerous excavation of the past Allegra has long sought to bury,” the source hints.
“Briarpatch” will offer a blend of crime, thriller, mystery, and pulp fiction.
Besides her role as Claire Temple in Marvel’s Netflix series, Dawson’s other recent projects include “Jane the Virgin” and “Unforgettable.” “Sin City,” “Rent,” and “Deathproof” are among her previous credits.
“Briarpatch” would mark Dawson’s first starring role in a series.
