Sandra Bullock to Head All-Female ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ Reboot

If you’re the betting sort, you’ll probably want to put some money down on the chances that more female-led reboots of franchises will be greenlit in the coming months. A new version of “Ocean’s Eleven” with an all-female cast — with Sandra Bullock attached as the lead — has been announced. The script was penned by Olivia Milch (who wrote the upcoming adaptation of the comic “Queen & Country”).

The 2001 version of “Ocean’s Eleven” grossed over $450 million worldwide and led to two sequels. The star-studded cast included George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon and Don Cheadle. No word yet on who will join Bullock onscreen, but the director of the reboot has been named, and, as is the case with the upcoming all-female reboot of “Ghostbusters,” “Ocean’s Eleven” will be helmed by a man, Gary Ross.

The good news: Like “Ghostbusters” director Paul Feig, Ross has a history of making movies with nuanced female characters (“The Hunger Games,” “Pleasantville”).

Feig has said, “I have guilt that I’m a man doing these movies. Women should be doing them, too! The studios aren’t giving them the opportunity for whatever reason.”

It’s unclear at this point how closely the new “Ocean’s Eleven” will parallel the 2001 caper-heist comedy, which focused on a rag-tag group of individuals who execute three simultaneous robberies — at the Bellagio, The Mirage and MGM Grand casinos. The team is headed by a former prison inmate who violates his parole (Clooney).

Who would you like to see join Bullock?

Bullock’s “Our Brand Is Crisis” is currently playing in theaters.
