Sarah Jessica Parker and Ellen Burstyn are headed to the Muse Awards. Both are set to receive honors at the ceremony celebrating women’s contributions in entertainment. Presented by New York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT), the 2018 edition will be held as a gala luncheon at the New York Hilton Midtown hotel on Thursday, December 13.
Parker received an Emmy and four Golden Globes for her iconic “Sex and the City” character, Carrie Bradshaw. She’s also known for her turns in “Honeymoon in Vegas,” “Hocus Pocus,” “Ed Wood,” and “The First Wives Club.” Also a producer, Parker has worked behind the scenes on her current HBO series, “Divorce,” and her latest project, feature drama “Here and Now.”
Over her six-decade career, Burstyn has won an Oscar, two Emmys, and a Tony. “Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore,” “The Exorcist,” and “The Last Picture Show” are among her notable credits. Most recently she appeared in “The Tale,” Jennifer Fox’s award-winning HBO drama grappling with sexual abuse, memory, and authorship.
Parker and Burstyn won’t be the Muse Awards’ only honorees. Lisa Nishimura, vp of original documentary and comedy programming at Netflix, will also be recognized. Comedian, writer, producer, and disability advocate Maysoon Zayid will be presented with the Loreen Arbus Changemaker Award. The Nancy Malone Directing Award will go to “30 Rock” and “Younger” helmer Tricia Brock.
Exiting NYWIFT executive director Terry Lawler will take home the Made in NY Award, bestowed by the New York City Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment. “I’m truly honored to be receiving the Made in NY Award at the Muse Awards this year,” Lawler stated. “I couldn’t imagine a better way to complete my hugely satisfying tenure as Executive Director. The progress we have made in helping to move women to the forefront of many entertainment mediums is something I am not only genuinely proud of, but so truly thankful for.”
Cynthia López will be taking over as NYWIFT’s exec director effective January 1.
