Sarah Silverman may be joining Lilly Singh and Samantha Bee on the late-night circuit. HBO has handed out a pilot order for a late-night series hosted by the comedian and actress, Variety reports. Silverman also signed a deal for a new comedy special with the premium cable network.
Described by Silverman as “weighing in on the mishigas of the week and taking live video calls,” the potential late-night show counts the Emmy winner among its exec producers. “I’m as passionate talking about my face-washing routine as I am talking about why billionaires cost us money,” she said. “Nothing’s off the table and nothing’s too high or low brow for me. I mean – look at my face – I’m literally all brow.”
“Sarah is truly a comedic force of nature and we’re so happy to have her back on HBO,” said Nina Rosenstein, executive vice president of HBO Programming.
Silverman’s Emmy history includes winning a trophy in 2014 for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special for “Sarah Silverman: We Are Miracles” and in 2009 for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics thanks to her co-writing credit on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!’s” “I’m F***ing Matt Damon.” She received a nod in 2018 for “Sarah Silverman: A Speck of Dust.” Her Hulu talk show, “I Love You, America with Sarah Silverman,” which received two nominations, was cancelled less than a year ago.
Besides adapting her best-selling memoir, “The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption, and Pee” into a musical that will debut in 2020, Silverman’s slate also includes Kat Coiro comedy (“Dead To Me”) “Marry Me.” The pic is currently filming and sees Jennifer Lopez playing a pop superstar who marries a random guy when she’s dumped by her fiancé. Silverman’s other acting credits include “Battle of the Sexes,” “Masters of Sex,” and “I Smile Back.”
