After taking on sci-fi in the “Lost in Space” reboot and true crime in “American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson,” Selma Blair has lined up another genre project. Deadline reports that the “Legally Blonde” star is attached to “The Great Illusion,” the feature debut of Maria Gabriela Cardenas. The pic centers on an FBI agent with a crippling fear of the dark tasked with hunting down a serial killer. No word on what Blair’s role will be.
Graham Greene (“Molly’s Game”), Kenzie Dalton (“Feud”), Glenn Morshower (“Bloodline”), Tokala Black Elk (“Wind River”), and Jon Lindstrom (“True Detective”) will also star, as will Oscar Cardenas, the director’s father. The daughter-father team wrote the script.
Production on “The Great Illusion” will kick off in Los Angeles in June. Amy Williams (Blair-starrer “Mothers and Daughters”) is producing.
Maria Gabriela Cardenas previously wrote and directed shorts “The Grand Guignol” and “Bon Appétit.” She’s also worked as a producer, script supervisor, and editor, among other roles.
The “Hellboy” franchise, “Cruel Intentions,” and “Web Therapy” are among Blair’s credits. She can be seen next in Paramount Network’s anthology reboot of “Heathers.” The dark comedy debuts July 10.
